Voted as an ‘up and coming’ holiday destination, cosmopolitan Limassol offers everything you’d need on holiday, from sun-kissed beaches to museums and archaeological sites.

When to go

The climate is typically Mediterranean and due to its location, can be one of the hottest parts of the region during the summer. Summers are hot and dry (they can be completely rainless from May - mid-September) and the summer skies are generally cloudless. Inland, the Troodos mountain ranges are refreshingly cooler.

Top Attractions

Not just for relaxing on the beach, Limassol has many attractions and places to visit.

  • Limassol Castle: Found near the harbour, it was once used as a prison and is now a museum rich with the history of Cyprus
  • Folk Art Museum: A preserved house with two centuries worth of Cypriot art
  • Public Gardens: Full of eucalyptus and pine trees, it is also home to a small zoo
Beaches

Limassol is home to many sandy beaches perfect for spending the day relaxing on. Some of the best beaches to check out include Kourion Beach, Pissouri Beach, Melanda Beach and Paramali Beach.

Culture

Limassol is famous for Cypriot festivals including Carnival, a 10-day festival dating back to pagan times and Wine Festival, held in the first quarter of September. Here, visitors are able to try Cypriot wines free of charge. In May, check out Flower Festival and visit in June when the Festival of the Flood is held.

Dining

Limassol offers a range of restaurants serving Cypriot food as well as many other cuisines. The main square in Old Town is full of such cafes and restaurants. The Vinarte Wine Bar is a must-visit. It doesn’t only serve wine, but also fresh and locally sourced food as well. For those indecisive eaters, the Meze Tavern serves up plentiful plates of ‘finger food’.

Entertainment

Limassol has a lively nightlife with a varied choice of bars, cafes, clubs and pubs. It is also home to the Rialto Theatre, the south coast's most prestigious venue for theatrical events and performances.

Adventure and Sports

The Sayious Adventure Park is the perfect spot for the adrenaline junkies arriving in Limassol, with off-roading, go-karting and archery being just some of the activities you’ll find here.

Getting Around

Limassol is located close to both Larnaca International Airport and Paphos International Airport. Inner city buses are available to get around to other cities. If you want to travel like a local, jump on to public transport. For more independence, cars are also available to rent.
